In a thrilling Group B matchup of the 2024 ASEAN Futsal Championship (AFF Futsal Championship), Indonesia’s national futsal team delivered a dominant performance against Myanmar, securing a decisive 5-1 victory. The match, held at Terminal 21 Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, saw Indonesia’s attack spring to life from the first whistle, overwhelming Myanmar with rapid, incisive plays.
The Garuda squad, under the strategic leadership of coach Hector Souto, wasted no time asserting their presence. Early chances were crafted by the skillful Evan Soumilena, who nearly broke through Myanmar’s defensive lines. Despite Indonesia’s high-tempo start, Myanmar held firm in the initial minutes, frustrating their opponent’s offense with a disciplined, defensive approach.
It wasn’t until the 15th minute that Rio Pangestu found the breakthrough. His powerful shot from outside the box caught Myanmar off guard, breaking the deadlock and giving Indonesia a 1-0 lead. With this lead, Indonesia pressed forward, yet Myanmar managed to hold them to a single goal at halftime.
The second half saw a reinvigorated Indonesian side, eager to extend their lead. Within minutes, Brian Ick (22′) and Samuel Eko (23′) doubled Indonesia’s advantage, adding two quick goals that placed Myanmar on the back foot. Down by three, Myanmar attempted to shift to a more aggressive style, ultimately managing to pull one goal back. But Indonesia’s defense, coordinated and efficient, thwarted any serious comeback efforts.
Myanmar’s desperation led them to adopt a power play strategy, but Indonesia’s squad adapted seamlessly. Firman Ardiansyah capitalized on this with a precise shot in the 31st minute, widening the gap further. Romi Humandri then joined the scoresheet just two minutes later, delivering the final blow and securing Indonesia’s 5-1 victory.
