Jay Idzes Celebrates Birthday with Venezia’s Promotion to Serie A

Jay Idzes marked his 24th birthday in unforgettable fashion by helping Venezia secure promotion to Serie A. On this significant day, Idzes took to the field in a pivotal match against Cremonese at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium. The match, held on June 2, fell precisely on his birthday.

The clash between Venezia and Cremonese was the second leg of the Serie B playoff final. The first leg ended in a goalless draw, setting the stage for a nail-biting decider. A narrow 1-0 victory in the second leg was enough to send Venezia back to Serie A. The match-winning goal came from Danish forward Christian Gytkjaer, who capitalized on a precise pass from Gianluca Busio in the 24th minute.

Idzes’ Defensive Brilliance

Starting the match, Idzes played a crucial role in Venezia’s defense. Despite receiving a yellow card in the 58th minute for a tough challenge on Charles Pickel, Idzes’ presence was instrumental in maintaining Venezia’s lead. Cremonese applied relentless pressure throughout the second half, but the resolute defense, anchored by Idzes, held firm until the final whistle.

This season marked Jay Idzes’ debut with Venezia, having joined the club on June 30, 2023, with a four-year contract. Over the course of 29 Serie B appearances, Idzes netted three goals and became a cornerstone of the team’s promotion campaign. Venezia’s last stint in Serie A was in the 2021/22 season, which ended in relegation. This promotion marks a significant achievement for both the club and Idzes.

Following Venezia’s triumph, Idzes faces another challenge. He will fly to Jakarta to join the Indonesian national team as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Indonesia is set to face Iraq and the Philippines on June 6 and 11. Selected by head coach Shin Tae Yong, Idzes is expected to play a key role in these crucial matches.
