On Wednesday, June 26, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) held its General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta. The meeting, which took place from afternoon until evening, resulted in several significant decisions that will impact the future of Liga 1. Below are the key outcomes from the GMS, as conveyed by PT LIB’s President Director, Ferry Paulus, during the post-meeting press conference.
1. Increase in Foreign Player Quota
One of the primary decisions made during the GMS was to increase the quota for foreign players in Liga 1 for the 2024/2025 season. Clubs will now be allowed to have eight foreign players, with no restrictions on the nationality of these players. This change is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the league.
2. Changes in PT LIB’s Executive Structure
The GMS also brought changes to PT LIB’s executive structure. Teddy Tjahjono, the former CEO of PT Persib Bandung Bermartabat, has been elected as Commissioner of PT LIB. Additionally, Sadikin Aksa, who previously served as Commissioner, has been appointed as PT LIB’s Chief Financial Officer.
3. Mandatory Playing Time for U-22 Players
In an effort to prepare young players for the 2025 SEA Games, Liga 1 clubs have agreed to provide at least 45 minutes of playing time per match for U-22 players during the 2024/2025 season. This initiative aims to give more game experience to younger talents.
4. Club Spending Cap
PT LIB has set a maximum spending cap of Rp50 billion per club each season. This measure is intended to maintain a healthy business environment and prevent excessive player purchases that could destabilize the competition.
5. Increased Prize Money for Liga 1 Champions
The prize money for the Liga 1 champions in the 2024/2025 season will be increased to Rp7.5 billion, up from the previous total of Rp5 billion. This significant boost in prize money is expected to raise the competitive spirit among the participating clubs.
Ferry Paulus emphasized that these agreements were made to enhance the quality of the competition and ensure the sustainability of Indonesian football. “Today, we have agreed on several agendas. First, we reviewed the corporation’s activities, including last season’s competition and financial reports. We also ratified the results of previous meetings approved by the shareholders, with several changes in place,” said Ferry.
With these strategic changes and decisions, the 2024/2025 Liga 1 season is anticipated to be more competitive and professional, offering high-quality entertainment for football fans across Indonesia.
