The journey of two key wingers of PSM Makassar, Yakob and Yance Sayuri, has come to an end at the beloved club of Makassar. Both players announced their departure from the team on their personal social media accounts on Friday morning (June 14, 2024). This decision comes as a surprise to many loyal supporters of PSM.
Yakob Sayuri, who joined PSM in January 2020, expressed his gratitude to the team and supporters through a post on his Instagram account @yassa_sayuri22. “I personally want to thank PSM Makassar for five incredible years wearing the pride of Makassar. It has been an extraordinary moment in my career,” he wrote. He concluded his message with a hopeful note, “I, Yakob Sayuri, am signing off from the phinisi ship, see you on the next voyage. Best of luck always, PSM Makassar.”
Meanwhile, Yance Sayuri, who joined PSM in March 2021, delivered a more emotional farewell message on his Instagram account @yansayuri11. “Where there is a meeting, there must be a farewell. Goodbye is the hardest word to say to friends and teammates who mean so much to me. Especially when farewell is not something I personally wish for,” he wrote. Yance revealed that the memories with PSM would always be the sweetest in his life, especially during his three seasons with Juku Eja.
Yakob and Yance Sayuri have been integral parts of PSM Makassar, with Yakob making 94 appearances, scoring 23 goals, and providing 14 assists in all official competitions. Yance, who shone under the guidance of Bernardo Tavares, made 36 appearances, scored 2 goals, and provided 3 assists. Their contributions were significant in PSM Makassar’s success in winning the Liga 1 title in the 2022/23 season, the first trophy in their professional careers.
The departure of the Sayuri Brothers increases the number of players leaving PSM in the early 2024/24 transfer window to four. Previously, defenders Erwin Gutawa and Safrudin Tahar had also left the club. Rumors suggest that Yakob and Yance are set to join the newly promoted club Malut United FC, following in the footsteps of Safrudin who signed a contract last week. The team, nicknamed Naga Gamalama, has been the most active participant in the transfer market, bringing in 10 new players.
The decision for Yakob and Yance to leave PSM Makassar was undoubtedly a difficult one. PSM has been their home for years, a place where they achieved great success and honed their skills. However, in the world of football, farewells are an inevitable part of a player’s career journey. PSM supporters will surely miss their brilliant performances on the field but also wish them the best for their future at their new club.
In closing this chapter, Yakob and Yance Sayuri have demonstrated their deep dedication and love for PSM Makassar. They leave behind a legacy that will be remembered by supporters and serve as an inspiration for young players aspiring to follow in their footsteps. Now, it’s time for them to embark on a new adventure, and we all hope they succeed in every step they take.
Farewell Yakob and Yance Sayuri. Thank you for your contributions and the memories you have given to PSM Makassar. See you on the next voyage, wherever that may be. Best of luck always in your future endeavors.
