Dewa United, known as the Tangsel Warriors, has officially announced the signing of attacking midfielder Taisei Marukawa from Japan for the 2024/25 season. The former MVP of Liga 1 Indonesia was acquired from PSIS Semarang through a transfer fee agreement.
The President of Dewa United FC, Ardian Satya Negara, revealed that the transfer was finalized after a lengthy negotiation process. “We brought Marukawa in with a transfer fee because he was still under contract with his previous club. The agreement was reached after negotiations with PSIS,” said Ardian, as quoted on Dewa United’s official website on Thursday (June 27, 2024).
Marukawa, who is widely recognized as a former MVP of Liga 1 Indonesia, is expected to strengthen Dewa United’s squad significantly. “We warmly welcome Marukawa and hope that his presence will make the team even stronger. We know he has quality,” added Ardian.
Taisei Marukawa’s decision to leave PSIS Semarang was influenced by a new regulation in the 2024/25 Liga 1 season, which limits the number of Asian foreign players on the field simultaneously. Born in Hiroshima, Japan, on January 30, 1997, Marukawa first gained recognition in Indonesia when he joined Persebaya Surabaya for the 2021/22 season.
At Persebaya, Marukawa impressed with 17 goals and 10 assists in 32 matches. Besides helping Persebaya finish in the top five of the league, Marukawa was also named the best player in the 2021/22 Liga 1 season. This outstanding performance attracted the interest of PSIS Semarang the following season.
During his two seasons with PSIS Semarang, Marukawa scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists in a total of 70 matches. Now, with Marukawa joining Dewa United, it is hoped that he will continue to perform at his best and help the team achieve greater success in the upcoming Liga 1 competition.
